The
Fourth of July!!!
Star-spangling a banner could almost make one glance up involuntarily to get a better look at the night sky-and both could cause one’s heart to beat with intense excitement. One ,because of the unbelievable number of stars sprinkling the darkness; the other, because of the unbelievable amount of liberty that flag represents.
THIS IS MY COUNTRY, LAND OF THE FREE1 and we’re about to celebrate our love for it.
Because of that I thought I’d write a love letter about her. What makes OUR country the greatest nation on earth-as all of our returning soldiers will tell you?
First-oh my! what is first? All of the reasons are so great.
But, first, we love our country because the freedom given us by God through our Famous Founders opens the gates to so many other things.
Picture a big iron gate with the word “Freedom” across its top.
The gate swings open. You enter the State of Freedom. You may go to the grocery store and take home a big bag of groceries-all you need for a big party-including watermelon.
Or you may hop in your car to visit your mother and father whom you haven’t seen for three days.
Or you may take the family to a picnic in your favorite mountain or forest hideout.
Or take your best friend out to dinner at your favorite restaurant.
Or, perhaps it’s Sunday and you’re ready to join your brothers and sisters in a joyful and peaceful time of fellowship as you sing loud and clear “Onward, Christian
Soldiers, Marching as to War” or “Praise God from Whom all
Blessings Flow.” Or maybe it’s Monday and it’s time to go home to your very own house.
Think about it.
Can you do any of those things in China, Cuba, Africa or just about any where else in the world without fear?
So grab a star-spangled banner and wave it high and joyfully today and tomorrow and, oh, YES, on Friday.
IT’S THE FOURTH OF JULY.
“Four score and seven (really, two hundred and thirty two) years ago our Fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation; conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that ‘all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.’”
In this country we think, talk, act, breath freedom (with a firm reliance on Divine Providence for protection against all who would attempt to take it from us!). So
Hats off! the Star Spangled Banner is passing by
IT’S INDEPENDENCE DAY!!
IT’S THE FOURTH OF JULY
2008
CELEBRATE!!
Footnotes:
1.
We have not yet given up the
idea that America is the best country in the world in spite of those
who want to make it a part of the boiling pot: one world with no
boundaries and no freedom.
